Mid-major madness

The Valley is insane. Go try and figure that conference out. NIU gets crushed at home, SIU loses to Evansville, but Bradley (the crusher) and Mo State are playing great ball now. It will get very interesting, but it still looks like 4 or 5 bids with the seeds 7-12, and 7 is generous, unless it is Wichita State or NIU winning the conference tournament.

In other areas, I am looking forward to the Nevada, Utah State game. Should be interesting. Nevada is almost a lock and playing more for seed while Utah State can really use this game. Go Pack.

Now before those of you point out that I came out of the Big 10, that holds in everything except basketball (UM bball with Steve Fisher, enough said), baseball and hockey (I played ball at Cornell, and had a couple friends on the puck team). Cornell in the Frozen Four!!!

Basketball tournament thoughts

It is getting down to that time of year. I like to try and watch some of the smaller schools to see who can pull the big upset. I did watch some of the bracker buster games. First, Bucknell should be in the tournament unless they fall on their face down the stretch. They are a solid team, and there are a lot of potential 3 throug 6 seeds that do not want to see them in the first or second rounds.

As far as teams that I believe can pull off an upset if they get in (not including the MVC): Iona, NW State, Utah State, George Mason (although looking at a 7 or 8 seed - so it would have to be in the second round), Westery Ky, NC-Wilmington and Murray State.

Teams I was not impressed with were SIU, La. Tech (I have seen them twice, and they are just ugly. Paul Millsap is a stud though.) UW-Milwaukee, and Manhattan (doubtful they get in.)

Enough already

I am sick and tired of Seattle fans complaining about the officiating. Suck it up and deal with it. Yes, the officials were horrible, but don't blame it only on them. Pittsburgh made the big plays, Seattle didn't. I am also sick of hearing about the "late flag" on the pass interference. It was NOT late. Take a look at the replay. The offical was trying to get the flag out right away, and had trouble. He originally had the bean bag in his hand, and then went and got the flag, so stop whining. Yes, it was interference, although in most cases it is rarely called. I have seen much worse not get called, but stop your bitching already. You didn't come back and make the plays while Pittsburgh converted a 3rd and 28 against your defense!
